We knew Britney Spears' run of good luck couldn't last more than three days - thanks to sneaky internet people leaking her tracks, Britney has been forced to bring the release of her new album Blackout forward by two weeks.
It's a blow for Britney Spears, that's for sure - after all the trouble she's been through over the last few years, Britney needs all the fans she can to buy Blackout and prove to the world that she can still be a successful popstar, and leaked internet tracks are just going to hurt her sales. Usually we'd be crowing triumphantly about Britney Spears messing up, but not this time - we've examined the situation from just about every angle and no matter how much Britney's plans must be screwed up by her album release being brought forward by a fortnight, we're all going to have to live with the fact that we'll have Britney Spears' fifth album in our lives for two weeks longer than we wanted. We're the ones who come out worse.
Somehow Britney Spears has beaten the odds and got her new single Gimme More to number three in the Billboard charts - a lesson to all would-be popstars that to achieve success you need to not be able to mime or dance and be a really dreadful parent - but now the success of Gimme More has run away with Britney Spears and buggered up her plans to release Blackout, her new album.
Blackout by Britney Spears spent a long time in the works - long enough for Britney Spears to conceive the world's crappest album-title competition but not long enough for Britney Spears to sort her hair out properly - and it looks very much as if Britney is trying to clean up her act before it comes out what with seeing her kids and not taking drugs and everything. Thing is, though, Britney Spears has 14 days less to clean up her act now because Blackout's original release date of November 13 has been pushed back by a fortnight because people keep leaking her songs onto the internet. Reuters reports:
Britney Spears will release her new album later this month, two weeks earlier than planned, because some recordings have already been leaked online, her label said on Wednesday. "Blackout," Spears' first album of new material in four years, will reach stores on October 30 in the United States, and a day earlier internationally, Jive Records said… Jive said album tracks, unfinished material and demos have found their way into cyberspace. A statement quoted an unidentified label official as saying, "Due to these numerous unauthorized online leaks, the label is doing everything possible to prevent and avoid any further illegal distribution of songs, including moving up the release date of the album to October 30th."
Which sounds to us like a polite way of saying "Quick! Bundle the album out before everyone realises how rubbish it is!" But, regardless of the reason why Britney Spears' album has been moved forward by two weeks, maybe October 30 has always been Blackout's spiritual release date. At least that way when Britney Spears rolls up to the Blackout album launch party babbling and farting with her vagina dangling around by her knees and lumps of vomit splattered across her chin, at least people can say it's her Halloween outfit. Where she's dressed up as herself, presumably.
